Short Answer

You can get $100 bills at your bank or financial institution — some, including Bank of America and Chase, even have ATMs that dispense $100 bills. Additionally, non-customers can exchange smaller bills for $100 bills at banks like BBVA USA, Fifth Third Bank, and PNC Bank and grocery stores like Kroger, Publix, Safeway, and Weis Markets (as long as the grocery store has $100 bills available). Grocery stores with higher cash back limits may also have $100 bills. Walmart is the only retail store we found that may exchange smaller bills for larger bills. For more details on where to get $100 bills, see below.

Where to Get $100 Bills

You can either get $100 bills by withdrawing the funds from your account (through a bank withdrawal or cash back) or by bringing in smaller bills and exchanging them for larger bills. We’ve listed the places where you can get $100 bills, namely banks and grocery stores. We were unable to find any gas stations or convenience store that keep $100 bills — due to safety reasons — and, during our research, we found that drug stores do not typically exchange smaller bills for larger bills. Walmart is the only retail store we found that said it may exchange smaller bills for a $100 bill.

Banks and Financial Institutions

One of the easiest places to get a $100 bill is at your bank or financial institution. You can either withdraw the funds from your account and request it in $100 bills or bring in smaller bills to exchange for larger bills. Alternately, you can deposit the smaller bills and withdraw the amount in $100 bills — this is especially easy at banks that have ATMs that dispense $100 bills.

Grocery Stores

Most grocery stores will let you exchange smaller bills for a $100 bill — provided the store has $100 bills available. We called multiple locations of several popular grocery store chains to confirm this information. Policies on fees and limits will vary by location and availability; it’s a good idea to call the store ahead of time to see if it has $100 bills available.

To exchange bills, you’ll want to visit the customer service desk and bring a valid photo ID (though not every location will require an ID). The following grocery stores will exchange smaller bills for a larger bill:

  • Albertsons
  • Harris Teeter
  • H-E-B
  • Kroger
  • Publix
  • Safeway
  • Wegmans
  • Weis Markets
  • Whole Foods Market

You may also be able to get a $100 bill through cash back at grocery stores that have higher cash back limits. For the list of stores that have cash back limits of $100+, see our related article. Keep in mind that not all stores will have $100 bills available.

Retail Stores

We contacted several retail stores, including Barnes & Noble, Costco, The Home Depot, Kohl’s, Kmart, Target, and Walmart to find out if you can exchange smaller bills for larger bills in-store. The only store that may offer this service is Walmart; this service is available at the store manager’s discretion. Fees and limits may apply.
