10 Places That Cash Traveler’s Checks (+ Their Fees & Limits)

Most banks and some check cashing locations will cash traveler’s checks for you. However, you will usually be able to deposit or cash traveler’s checks at banks only if you are an account holder and check cashing stores often charge fees. None of the retail check-cashing locations we contacted (such as grocery stores) cash traveler’s checks. Below, we’ve detailed where you can and can’t cash or deposit traveler’s checks.

What We Recommend

If you have a bank account, cashing or depositing the traveler’s check at your own bank is usually the best option; it’s free, and most banks do not impose limits.

If you don’t have a bank account or your bank can’t cash your traveler’s check, Bank of America may be a good option. Some of its locations will cash traveler’s checks for non-account holders for free. Other options include check cashing stores like Amscot and PLS, but keep in mind that these places do charge fees.
