Use a Mobile Banking App to Make Deposits Any Time
If you have a bank account and need to cash a check on a Saturday, many of the larger banks like Bank of America and Wells Fargo offer mobile banking smartphone apps that allow you to scan a signed copy of the check into the app for deposit directly into your bank account. You will not, however, have access to the cash until the check clears and you make a withdrawal. To find out more, contact your bank directly to download the institution’s app.

Banks and Credit Unions That Cash Checks on Saturday
If you are not a customer at a given bank, you can still cash a check there if it was issued by that bank or credit union. The bank or credit union will be able to verify the account it came from because it has access to the account and can determine that the money is indeed available. You will need to show identification (sometimes two forms) to cash the check. As with most places that cash personal checks, banks and credit unions often have fees as well.
It’s best to call your local branch to confirm its Saturday hours. If you try to cash a check at an issuing bank or credit union where you are currently not a customer, the bank employee may try to persuade you to open an account so the check cashing fees can be waived. However, you do not need to purchase any financial products from the bank or open an account to cash a check at the issuing bank. Our related article has more information about how to cash a check without a bank account.
Because there are numerous local credit unions, you can use mycreditunion.gov to determine a local credit union’s hours and locations. As with a bank, you can cash a check at a credit union without having an account if the check you are cashing is issued by that credit union. Some will cash a check for free for non-customers as well. Identification may be required.

Check Cashing Places Open on Saturday
Check cashing places are convenient and will typically cash any type of check for any amount. However, check cashing places do this because these businesses often charge a high flat fee plus a percentage of the check amount. If you decide to visit one of these places, you may want to inquire first about the fees you will pay before agreeing to have your check cashed. Other places like banks, grocery stores, and convenience stores may be a more cost-effective way to cash your checks any day of the week.

In Summary
When you need a check cashed on a Saturday and your bank is closed or only open limited hours or you don’t have a bank account, there are many popular grocery stores and convenience stores that will cash non-personal checks for a nominal fee. Another wise alternative is cashing it at banks or credit unions that do have convenient Saturday hours. Finally, several check cashing places are available to cash checks on Saturdays. Because of the higher fees and rates charged at a check cashing place, we recommend those places only as a last resort. If you need to cash a check during a weekday but perhaps during odd hours, we also have the list of places that cash checks 24/7.
