Short Answer: Walmart’s current return hours are from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., unless a particular store is operating under more restricted hours. For seniors, shopping and return hours are extended to 6:00 a.m. on Tuesdays. There are also some restrictions on the types of items that can currently be returned. For more details explaining Walmart’s return center hours, see below.

Walmart Return Hours Explained

Currently, most Walmart locations — unless already operating under more restricted hours — are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.[1] You can make returns during this time. Walmart has also extended its shopping hours for seniors over the age of 60; every Tuesday, Walmart stores are open from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m.[2] Seniors can shop and make necessary returns during this time. These hours also apply to holidays when the store is open; however, if the store is closing early for a holiday, the return hours will vary depending on the store’s closing time.

Also, note that while Walmart stores in most states are operating under the company’s standard return policy, some states — specifically California and Illinois — are not currently accepting returns of food, paper products, pharmacy items, household cleaning items, health and beauty products, or apparel.[3] You may want to contact your intended Walmart location before returning one of these items to make sure the store can process the return.

In general, you must bring in-store returns to the customer service desk near the front of the store. This is because only customer service staff are trained in handling returns, a Walmart employee said. However, you may be able to initiate your return using the Walmart app or at Walmart.com.

Walmart allows returns of many opened items and most items without a receipt; all returns are subject to a store manager’s approval. Be sure to follow all current store protocols when visiting your local Walmart.

Checking if Walmart is doing returns. Some stores are not. Just got my microwave did not realize how big it was. Also I do not like how the buttons work. How many days before I need to return it? Not sure if I want to come in the store right now.
    Thank you,

Hello, Joanne! As of right now, Walmart has not altered its companywide return policy. You can find the details, including the time limit and requirements, in our overview of Walmart’s return policy. However, store managers do have authority over returns, so you may want to contact your local store before attempting to make a return. Best of luck!

I bought a TV and it was broken. I tried to return it the same day and was informed that same TV was bought a couple days before? Makes no sense to me.

Hello, Dennis! Did you have your receipt and the box for the TV? Walmart does accept open-box returns for damaged TVs if you have your receipt but can deny the return if the TV was damaged after purchase. For more information about TV returns at Walmart, see our dedicated article on the return policy for new and refurbished TVs. Were you able to speak to a manager when attempting to return the TV? If not, it may also help to call your local store or call Walmart’s corporate customer service line at (800) 925-6278. Best of luck!
