General Application Requirements

You can apply for the Ultamate Rewards credit card and Mastercard online. Applications are also available at the register in stores, corporate customer service representatives at Ulta Beauty said. Comenity Capital Bank backs both cards and lists their fees and rates on its website.

To apply for either credit card, you must be at least 18, log into or create an Ulta.com account, and provide the following information:

  • Full name
  • Current U.S. address
  • Phone number
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security number
  • Annual income

Once you submit your application, Comenity may approve it immediately or take up to ten days to process it. Occasionally, the bank may contact you for more information.

In some cases, Ulta Beauty will instantly approve a customer during the check-out process in stores. Our previous research lists 58 credit cards that offer instant approval, including Ultamate Rewards.

Ulta Beauty Credit Card Limits

Opening credit limits for the Ultamate Rewards credit card may range from $250 to $1,000 or more. The credit limit for the Ultamate Rewards Mastercard typically starts at around $1,000. For both cards, your opening limit will depend on your income and overall credit history.

Comenity may increase your credit limit automatically (sometimes about six months after opening your account), depending on your payment activity and individual credit factors. If you do not receive an increase, you can log in and submit a credit line increase request on Comenity’s website. This only requires a soft pull of your credit.

Application Denial

If Comenity denies your application, it may send a letter with a short denial explanation; you can also contact Comenity customer service at (800) 675-5685 for more details.

Comenity may deny applications due to a large number of active credit cards or a high number of inquiries. There is no set limit on the number of accounts or inquiries; it bases its decision on a comparison to other customers with similar credit profiles.

Many people wait four to six months or more to reapply, but you can typically reapply after 30 days. Should you choose to reapply, keep in mind that the more you apply, the more inquiries show up on your credit report, which can damage your score.

Closed-loop store cards like the Ultamate Rewards credit card are generally among the easiest cards to get, so if you receive a denial, you may want to consider a low credit line card to improve or build your credit.
