Does U-Haul Have Unlimited Miles?

U-Haul does not offer unlimited miles, customer service representatives said. Unlimited miles are not available for in-town or one-way moves. Below, we detail the rates for each type of move, including additional fees for going over the one-way move mileage limit.

In-Town Move Rates

U-Haul’s in-town rental charges include a flat fee for the rental period, plus a charge per mile. Rates for pickup trucks and cargo vans start with a flat fee of $19.95, plus $0.59 to $0.69 per mile. Larger moving trucks start at a $29.95 to $39.95 flat fee plus $0.79 to $0.89 per mile. Prices vary based on location and time of year, so you will want to check the U-Haul rental rates in your city.

One-Way Move Rates

The price for a one-way move varies depending on truck size, the city you are renting in, your destination, and the date of your move. Prices can fluctuate significantly based on these factors.

The total price for a one-way move will include a set number of days for you to complete the move, as well as a predetermined mileage allowance. Once you reach the mileage limit, you will pay an additional $0.40 per mile. You can also purchase additional days for your one-way rental; U-Haul trucks cost $40 per extra day, and trailers and towing devices cost $20 per day. You must turn in one-way rentals at a U-Haul location in the destination city.

Discounted Rates

U-Haul offers special rates on extended days and mileage for customers who can pick up and return their truck at the same location, customers who need multiple days/weeks, or those who must travel hundreds of miles for their move. To find out if these special rates apply to your rental, you can fill out the truck rental form on U-Haul’s website. There will be a link for “extended days/miles special rates.”

U-Haul also recommends that if you are planning to rent a smaller vehicle and make multiple trips, it may be more cost-effective to upgrade to a larger vehicle, which will help you save on mileage and fuel costs.
