Being part of a tech team often means that everyone you know thinks you can fix their computer. While this may be true, it is likely that the only people who really understand what you do are your colleagues. Choosing a creative tech team name can make your job sound even cooler than it already is. Below, we’ve listed several group name ideas for those in the tech industry, and we also list some things to consider when choosing a team name.

What to Keep in Mind When Picking Team Names

Having a team name is great for boosting morale at work. The process of choosing a name can be fun, and it helps team members feel like they’re part of an exclusive organization. The type of name you choose will depend on the environment at your workplace. Some offices may be more receptive to suggestive or PG-13 names, while other offices may prefer that you keep it clean. (We’ve noted the names that are a bit more suggestive with an asterisk.) As a general rule, it is best to avoid names that could be insulting or discriminatory toward any particular race, gender, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, or other identity. The point of a team name is to lift people’s spirits, not to put anyone down.

When choosing a team name, it’s best to choose one that reflects what your team does as a whole. You may be part of a tech team where everyone has a different role, in which case it may be easier to choose a name with a more general application as opposed to something like “Code Warriors.” It will help if you are able to involve all team members in the name selection process to ensure everyone’s opinion is heard.
