To cash a check at Stop & Shop, you must first be approved. According to customer service, the approval process can take a few weeks, so you can’t begin cashing checks there until you’ve been approved. To get approved, you must first have a membership card, which you can get either in-store or online. Once you have your card, go to the Stop & Shop customer service desk and fill out the check cashing application. There is no fee for signing up for check cashing privileges.

Once you’re approved, there’s a $0.50 fee to cash a check, and you can only cash checks up to $500. Stop & Shop uses TeleCheck for its check approval services. Even after you’re approved for check cashing, you must still present a valid photo ID (driver’s license, military ID, or state-issued identification card) when you cash a check at Stop & Shop.
