Short Answer

Retro Fitness gyms are independently owned and operated, so cancellation policies vary by location. Most locations require 60 days’ written notice to cancel and you may be required to pay the remainder of your contract. For more information on the typical Retro Fitness cancellation policy, see below.

Retro Fitness Cancellation Policy

Retro Fitness cancellation policies vary by location but all require advance notice. Retro Fitness is a franchise and each gym is independently owned and operated.

We contacted Retro Fitness locations in Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Utah, and Washington to find out about the typical Retro Fitness cancellation policy. We found that Retro Fitness typically requires 60 days’ written notice to cancel. And, depending on your contract, you may be required to pay the remainder of your contract. For example, if you signed a contract for one year and you cancel before the year is over, you may be required to pay for the months remaining on your contract.

How to Cancel Retro Fitness Memberships

To begin the cancellation process, contact the Retro Fitness location where you are a member. A staff member will give you the address where you should send a written request to cancel. It is advised that you send your notice by certified mail so there will be a record of receipt. You cannot submit your cancellation request by email.

Your Retro Fitness cancellation letter should include your name (as it is listed on your membership contract), date of birth, phone number, and billing address. You’ll want to clearly state your desire to cancel your membership and sign and date the letter. It would be a good idea to keep a copy of the letter for your records.

After your cancellation request is received, you should be notified of any applicable fees and the last date of your membership. If you do not receive a receipt of delivery and/or do not hear from Retro Fitness within about a week of sending your cancellation notice, you should contact your local gym.

How to Transfer Your Membership

You are moving, you can transfer your Retro Fitness membership to another location. There is no fee to transfer your membership. To transfer your membership, speak with a staff member at your local Retro Fitness.

You can also transfer your Retro Fitness membership to a friend or family member. Both parties will need to visit the location to make the transfer. (Want to bring your friend as a guest first? See our related article on Retro Fitness’ guest policy.)
