At Rent-A-Center, when a leased item is stolen, the store manager will handle it on a case-by-case basis. If you are an RAC Benefits Plus member, your item(s) may be protected. For more information on Rent-A-Center’s theft policy, see below.

Rent-A-Center Theft Policy

The Rent-A-Center policy on stolen items is that it handles claims on a case-by-case basis, said a customer service manager for the rent-to-own furniture and electronics retailer. If an item under a lease is stolen, a store manager will need to see a copy of the police report. The manager will also help you file a claim with Rent-A-Center. Keep in mind, you may be required to continue making payments. If you are an RAC Benefits Plus member, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to get a replacement item.

If you’re not sure if you’re an RAC Benefits Plus member, you likely are. The program gives you limited liability coverage which is required for a lease agreement in many states. In some cases, you’ll get sent a new item so you can continue your rental experience.

RAC Benefits Plus is often bundled with your rental agreement. A customer service manager explained that RAC Benefits Plus membership is an additional monthly charge, included in the total cost of the rental. If you stop paying for it at any point during the rental period, the rental items will no longer be protected. In addition to theft, RAC Benefits Plus covers product damage from natural disasters and fire. Benefits vary by state; see your state’s available coverage on the Benefits page. For additional information, you can call Rent-A-Center’s customer service at (800) 422-8186.
