RaceTrac gas stations and convenience stores sell MoneyGram money orders, RaceTrac store associates said. We spoke with representatives from several RaceTrac locations across Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. All store associates reported that RaceTrac sells MoneyGram money orders.

There are a few things you should know before heading to your nearest RaceTrac to purchase a money order:

• Make sure to have a photo ID.
• Bring enough cash to cover the amount of the money order you wish to purchase, plus any fees. Some RaceTrac locations accept debit or credit cards for money order purchases, but most only accept cash.
• Be aware of the limits and fees. RaceTrac sells MoneyGram money orders up to $500 with a daily limit of $2,500 in money orders per person. RaceTrac charges $1.49 fee per money order.
• Some RaceTrac locations that we called said they normally sell money orders but that their machine was down. You might want to call ahead to verify that your nearest RaceTrac is able to sell money orders.

While RaceTrac sells money orders, it does not cash them. None of the locations we spoke with offer money order cashing services. RaceTrac is a chain gas service stations with more 400 locations in the southern United States. RaceTrac’s affiliated brand, RaceWay, has locations in the southern and northeastern United States. Although RaceWay is a division of RaceTrac, it has different policies when it comes to money orders. We spoke with store associates at RaceWay locations in New Jersey and Virginia, and they reported that RaceWay’s money order policy varies by location because RaceWay stores are individually owned and operated.
