Progressive Leasing is a company that provides lease-to-own plans to consumers in partnership with a variety of retailers, and it allows you to make large purchases and pay for them over time. This can be convenient for many customers with bad or no credit — while stores with traditional financing plans frequently reject customers with poor credit, Progressive Leasing doesn’t run a credit check.

How Progressive Leasing Works
While Progressive Leasing does not pull your credit report, you must meet certain requirements to be approved. Progressive Leasing will examine your employment history, income, and banking history, among other things. Therefore, approval is not always guaranteed.
Once you’re approved for Progressive Leasing, the lease is signed, and your initial payment is received, Progressive Leasing purchases the merchandise from the retailer and simultaneously leases this merchandise to you, the customer. This means that Progressive technically retains ownership until you’ve paid off the lease.
To use your funds after getting approved, either select the payment option online or visit a participating store with your lease ID number and photo ID. A cashier will be able to look up your lease and help you complete your purchase. Note that f you apply through a specific store that offers Progressive Leasing, you cannot use your lease at a different retailer; however, you can use the lease at any location of the retailer where you applied.
Progressive Leasing doesn’t permit retailers to charge an application fee for its services and it won’t let the retailer pay any part of the initial payment. Progressive Leasing’s programs give you 90 days to pay off the purchase — often just your initial payment plus the purchase price of the item. You’ll also have buyout options for up to 12 months if you don’t pay in full within the first 90 days, but these will incur higher leasing fees (as opposed to interest).
Potential Drawbacks to Progressive Leasing
Be aware that if you have trouble making your payments on time, you can also face some consequences. If you contact the company before the missed payment’s due date, it may be willing to work out a solution with you. However, if you miss payments without notifying the company of your situation, you may default on your lease. Your account could be sent to collections, and your items could be repossessed.
Progressive Leasing has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, but quite a few negative reports from customers; most complaints stem from negative experiences with customer service or the high total cost of the lease. Like any leasing, financing, or similar program, you’ll end up paying more than if you had bought the item in full upfront — more than double the item’s retail price, in some cases.
Restrictions by State
Note that 90-day payoff plans with Progressive Leasing aren’t available everywhere because of state laws. If you live in Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Wisconsin, or Wyoming, you will have to explore other financing options. If you live in one of these states or are not fully comfortable using Progressive Leasing at this time, we also have the list of stores that offer layaway.
What We Recommend
If you’re looking for a department store that offers Progressive Leasing for all items, consider Shop Factory Direct. While it has no physical store locations, it offers a wide selection of products and multiple flexible lease repayment options. Similarly, the online discount store Overstock.com also offers Progressive Leasing for most items.
For more specialized retailers that offer Progressive Leasing programs, consider Best Buy for your electronics needs and Lowe’s or Ashley HomeStore for your home improvement and furniture needs. Furthermore, Reeds Jewelers is a good option for buying fine jewelry with Progressive Leasing, and it offers a wide selection of products and designers.
Stores That Use Progressive Leasing
Because stores that offer Progressive Leasing don’t run a credit check, many will require some proof of income and a credit card, debit card, or active checking account to prove your creditworthiness and use for the initial payment. As noted above, the payment structure is virtually the same for all Progressive Leasing programs — you have 90 days to pay off the item for just the price of the item and the initial fee, and if you don’t pay it off in 90 days, you typically have 12 months to complete the lease while incurring service fees.
Below, we list the popular department stores, electronics stores, furniture stores, jewelry stores, and tire stores that offer Progressive Leasing programs so you can make your purchase with a payment plan even with a low credit score. Within each category, we’ve ordered the lists starting with the best overall selection and leasing options.
You can use the table for a brief comparison of qualifying items and payment options, then click any store or scroll for more information.

Stores That Don’t Use Progressive Leasing
While many stores now offer leases through Progressive Leasing, there are still a number of nationwide stores that only offer traditional financing, or offer different leasing programs like WhyNotLeaseIt. The following stores do not use Progressive Leasing:
- Amazon
- Costco
- The Home Depot
- Kmart
- Living Spaces
- Mathis Brothers Furniture
- Metro by T-Mobile (Formerly MetroPCS)
- Sam’s Club
- Sears
- Target
- Verizon Wireless
- Walmart
In Summary
Progressive Leasing lets you make large purchases and pay for them over time, and it usually comes with fewer fees than many traditional financing programs. There’s no credit check, so these lease-to-own programs are available for those with less than perfect credit. If you’re looking to shop online using Progressive Leasing, consider Shop Factory Direct or Overstock.com. Additionally, you can use Progressive Leasing at popular nationwide stores like Best Buy, Lowe’s, Ashley HomeStore, and Reeds Jewelers. Be aware that with any lease-to-own or financing program, you will end up paying more than the original purchase price for your items. Make sure that you can afford the full cost of the least before using Progressive Leasing to make big purchases.
I was approved for Progressive Leasing online on through the Big Lots website. Since then, I have discovered that there is another furniture store that I want to purchase from that also uses Progressive Leasing. I have not initiated any purchase nor given my lease ID to Big Lots. Can I use that approval at the other furniture store instead of Big Lots?
Hello, Sandra! Great question! We contacted Progressive Leasing and found that while you can transfer your lease to a different Big Lots location, you cannot transfer it to a different retailer entirely. You will need to reapply for Progressive Leasing at the other furniture store. We have updated our article to include this information. Best of luck with your purchase!
I just applied and was approved for a 12-month lease with Lowe’s. You’re staying here that they don’t offer it; however, the Progressive Leasing site had it as an option. I just don’t understand how I shop. I don’t have a card from Progressive Leasing so how do I go in the store and shop?
Hello, J! We apologize for the confusion regarding Lowe’s — it just began implementing Progressive Leasing at its stores in October. We have updated our article to reflect this change.
If you were approved online, you should have received a lease ID number. To shop, visit the Lowe’s location you selected when applying. You will need your lease ID number and your photo ID. Once the cashier finds the lease and verifies your identity, they will help you complete your purchase. We have also updated our article to include this information.
Best of luck with your purchase!
What can you purchase at Lowe’s?
Hello, Barry! Unfortunately, Lowe’s does not offer Progressive Leasing. We have updated our article to include this information. Lowe’s instead offers financing through the Lowe’s Advantage Card.
I live in Illinois, I was approved and was going to go shop. Your articles states that 90 day pay off is not option? In Illinois what are my options, I will not pay double or more!
Hello, Tammie! If you choose to shop with Progressive Leasing, the details of all of your repayment options will appear in your contract. The 90-day payment option is now available in Illinois; we have updated our article to reflect this change.
Does Living Spaces or Mathis Brothers use Progressive Leasing? I recently paid off my dining room set and used Progressive Leasing at Jerome’s, I would like to use these two stores if they offer Progressive Leasing also.
Hello, Carmia! Unfortunately, Living Spaces and Mathis Brothers Furniture do not use Progressive Leasing. Both offer financing through store credit cards backed by Synchrony Bank. We have updated our article to include this information.
Does Sears accept Progressive Leasing?
Hello, Eggie! Sears does not accept Progressive Leasing but does offer a leasing program through a similar company, WhyNotLeaseIt. We have more information about this program in our related article on buy now, pay later stores. We have updated our article to include Sears on the list of stores that do not accept Progressive Leasing.
Why is Best Buy listed in the stores that use Progressive Leasing and also in the list of stores that do not use it?
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, David! Best Buy did not offer Progressive Leasing when the article was originally written; it was added to the list at a later date. We have confirmed that Best Buy does currently offer Progressive Leasing. We apologize for this error and have corrected our article.

Do Lowes or Home Depot use Progressive leasing..
Hi Susan,
Neither uses Progressive Leasing. Lowes offers a store credit card with special 36 month and 84 month financing plans, and Home Depot a couple different store credit cards for consumers, projects, or businesses.
Does Rent a center use this program or Aaron’s?
Hi Louise,
Aaron’s doesn’t use Progressive Leasing, but they do have a rent to own program. You can read more about Aaron’s and its rent to own program in our article, 10 Best Rent to Own Furniture Stores (Some Requiring No Credit Check). Rent a Center also has a rent to own program, but its not Progressive Leasing.
Do they have anything in Idaho? We went thru Progressive Leasing at American Auto & Tire in Nampa, Idaho and loved it. I need a pellet stove now real bad and was wondering if anybody knows where a store is that does the leasing. Thanks
Hi CJ,
Unfortunately, due to the volume of requests we receive, we are not able to provide information for specific location inquiries. Your best bet is to search for stores that sell pellet stoves and then inquire if they have Progressive Leasing or some other in-store financing program. For example, I did a quick search and found that Lowe’s sells pellet stoves and while it doesn’t offer Progressive Leasing, it does have its own in-store financing program with no interest if paid in full within six months. Searching this way instead of just searching for stores with Progressive Leasing may help you expand your search a bit. Best of luck!
I love progressive leasing, I took out a washer and dryer at best buy . No more laundromat . I did the 90 day option – will be going back thanksgiving day for my tv. Progressive leasing has really helped me furnish my first place, as i just start building credit so i was denied most cards as i have no credit history.
Hi,
Glad to hear Progressive has been useful for you! I hope our list helps you find somewhere to get anything else you need to furnish your place 🙂
So best buy uses them too???
Hi SMJ,
Some people have reported individual Best Buy stores using Progressive Leasing, but this is not a store-wide policy for all locations. You’ll have to call your nearest Best Buy to see if they offer it.
ok. thank you
Hello All,
Is there an appliance store who uses progressive leasing?
Hi SMJ,
I was able to find two — Idler’s Home and US Appliance. Idler’s Home is in southern California, and US Appliance is in Michigan and offers free shipping. If you just looking for smaller appliances, the one that’s on our list that might have what you need is Big Lots.
Ashley furnisher Store in Manchester Ct. and Icasa furnisher store in Hartford Ct. uses progressive leasing also Puritan furnisher store in West Hartford Ct. uses progressive leasing.
Hi Michelle,
Thanks for the tip! Our future New England readers will definitely appreciate knowing about Puritan and Ikasa. We’ve reached out to Ashley’s to see if Progressive is something they offer at several locations or just their store in Manchester.
You all really need to get an electronic store on board with PL, that would be a great money making opportunity
Overstock accepts progressive leasing
Does Home Depot or Lowe’s accept Progressive Leasing or any other leasing company? I’m looking to purchase large appliances.
Hi Ay Are,
Home Depot and Lowe’s don’t use Progressive Leasing, but both stores offer their own financing programs.
Home Depot’s Consumer Credit Card offers financing for 6 months (sometimes up to 24 months for special promotions.)
Lowe’s right now is actually running a special financing promotion for appliances which you might want to check out. “Ask for 36 Fixed Monthly Payments at 1.99% APR Until Paid in Full.”
Does any flooring companies use PL?
Hi Big Red,
After searching around for a bit, it doesn’t seem like an major flooring companies use Progressive Leasing. However, some smaller flooring companies may individually use PL — see Mitchells Furniture and Flooring as an example. If you’re looking for a flooring company that offers Progressive Leasing, your best bet is to directly contact local flooring companies and see if they offer it. If not, you’ll find that many stores have their own financing programs that can help you afford the work you need to get done. Hope this helps!
I just discovered a charge on my bank account from progressive leasing and I did not apply or use your service. In fact, I had never heard of you before this happened. I contacted my bank and was told my checking account information was used to apply (routing number, etc.). This was definitely fraud and I have closed that account. How does progressive leasing verify identity and form of payment when applying for your credit?
Hi Debra,
Sorry to hear about this situation. Just to clarify, we’re not associated with Progressive Leasing and aren’t here to promote or demote them, we’ve just compiled a list of several stores that use them to help people who are looking for stores where they can use Progressive’s leasing program. You should contact Progressive directly to resolve this issue, here’s their contact info page.
Need car equipment any store in texas use progressive?
Hi Cynthia,
That’s a tough question without more specifics — what sort of car equipment are you looking for? There are a few wheel and tire sellers that use Progressive. While they’re not located in Texas, they do ship nationwide. You can try Tires Factory Direct, A1 Tires and Wheels, or Dan the Tire Man. VIP Pro Audio sells radios for cars and uses Progressive. They have free shipping to the contiguous US. Pacific Stereo sells car audio, video, gps, and security equipment, and also uses Progressive. They’re in California, but they ship orders of $50 for free to Texas. Hope these are helpful for you! Let us know if there are any other (or more specific) questions we can answer.

I was refused credit from conn’s home plus. I received a denial letter from Equifax
Hi Par,
I spoke with customer service at Progressive Leasing and they said while they don’t perform a traditional credit check (you do not need good credit or any credit to qualify), they will check your employment history, income, and bank account history. Some of the reasons customers are denied include a bank account history with too many NSF or returned checks, a lack of employment history, or inadequate income. If you have further questions about why you were denied, you can contact them at 1-877-898-1970. We’ve also updated the article to reflect this information.
Do you need to have a certain amount of incom or your job for a certain amount of time, or so much in your bank account?

Metropcs uses Progressive leasing
Hi FB,
I’ve looked into MetroPCS and it seems like probably used to use Progressive Leasing, but don’t anymore. There’s no information about Progressive or any other leasing or financing plans on their website. I also found some customers reporting in forums and reviews online (for example, here) that they had used Progressive Leasing programs at MetroPCS, but all of these were several years old.
I used them at metro pcs about a month ago
Hi Richard,
Thanks for sharing. Would you mind telling us which store you went to, or which state you’re in, so we can track down progressive leasing options at MetroPCS?
Hi FB and Richard,
We looked into Metro PCS again, and were able to get in touch with them to confirm that they do not use Progressive Leasing. They do, however, use a similar financing program called SmartPay Everyday Leasing.
I use progresive with metro 90 days and I finish my payment 2 weeks ago

If I signed up and got approved from big lots do I have to choose big lots to make the purchase or can I go to any of the stores listed for PL?
Hi Jackiee,
If you applied through Big Lots, you’ll have to purchase at Big Lots. To purchase at a different store, you’ll have to apply through that store. This is because the plans do differ slightly from store to store and state to state, so the applications also vary slightly.
I just used PL for the first time, and I was very happy. If I was to purchase something else do I apply for another credit line?
Hi Emma,
Yes, you will need to apply for another line of credit if you want to purchase something else with Progressive Leasing. However, if you applied for a line of credit with a certain retailer and did not use the entire line of credit extended to you, you may be able to purchase something else without reapplying, provided it was recent (within a few days).
I just used Progressive Leasing for the first time few days ago. I like the convenience of the 90 day payoff option. Since my purchase is recent will I have to pay another processing fee if I want to use more of the available credit that I was approved for?
Hi Tracy,
You will probably have to pay the fee again, but you could check with the store you bought your items at to be certain. You definitely won’t be able to use the rest of the credit at a different store that uses Progressive — different stores have their own applications that vary slightly.
That is not entirely true. I spoke with a lady today at Progressive and I have $1,000 at Wayfair to spend. If I do not spend it all I can apply at Overstock or any of their other retailers and they usually approve for the remainder of your lease amount.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Georgiiarae! You are correct — you are welcome to apply at another store if you’d like to use the remainder of your original approval amount. However, Progressive Leasing does not guarantee that the new application will be approved. We have updated our article to include this information.
Can you give location on the Best Buy’s that use Mike
