Getting a Midas Car Inspection: Availability? Cost? What to Expect? etc.

In states where vehicle inspections are required, most Midas locations offer state inspection services. State vehicle inspections are required in 17 states. We tried contacting Midas locations in all 17 states and found that locations in the following states offer inspection services:

• Alabama
• Hawaii
• Maine
• Massachusetts
• Missouri
• New Hampshire
• New York
• North Carolina
• Pennsylvania
• Rhode Island
• Texas
• Utah
• Vermont
• Virginia

While Delaware, Louisiana, and West Virginia require state inspections, Midas does not offer the service in those states. Employees at locations in Delaware said inspections must go through the state and are not available through third-party service providers. Also, we were unable to find any Midas locations in West Virginia.

Costs

Inspection requirements vary by state, so cost and time estimates also vary. Inspection costs at Midas range from $12 to $80. Some states regulate the cost of vehicle inspections; Rhode Island, for example, sets the cost at $55. Where costs are not regulated, you may be able to save by purchasing and/or booking your inspection at Midas online; Midas Hawaii even offers a discount when you buy online.

Turnaround Time

In general, a vehicle inspection at Midas takes between 30 and 90 minutes — not including time for any necessary repairs. In most cases, repairs can be done at Midas the same day.

Walk-in appointments may be available, or you can make an appointment at your nearest Midas. Keep in mind, some Midas locations only offer inspections on certain days of the week. Once your vehicle passes inspection, Midas will provide any necessary documentation. Some states require a certificate to be kept in the vehicle, while others require an official state inspection sticker to be displayed on the windshield. Some Midas locations will forward documentation to your state Department of Motor Vehicles.

Courtesy Checks

While only some Midas locations do state inspections, you can ask for a courtesy check at any Midas — even those in states that do not require regular inspections. Courtesy checks are free with any maintenance or repair service. A Midas courtesy check includes visually inspecting the vehicle for any issues that may need repair now or in the near future.
