Short Answer

Valero provides high-quality gasoline by national standards, and the company sources its oil from multiple suppliers. Its gas stations stock TOP TIER certified gasoline, which is proven to be beneficial for your car. Find out more about Valero’s fuel and TOP TIER standards below.

Valero Gas Quality

Valero is the world’s largest independent petroleum refiner, and the company sells quality gasoline, according to government and auto manufacturer standards. Valero is a TOP TIER certified retailer, which means it is one of a number of gasoline brands guaranteed to provide protection for your engine in the form of deposit control additives.

TOP TIER gasoline certification exists because several major auto manufacturers (including GM, BMW, Toyota, etc.) were concerned that the performance of their vehicles was lessened by cheap fuel. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a standard for the minimum concentration of additives allowed in gasoline. In 2004, auto manufacturers developed TOP TIER gas with a formulation of deposit control additives that exceed EPA standards.

Tests have shown that TOP TIER gas is beneficial for your engine; a study conducted by the American Automobile Association (AAA) found that TOP TIER gas, on average, leaves behind 19 times fewer harmful deposits than non-TOP TIER gas.

Valero Oil Sources

Until recent years, Valero was known as one of the world’s largest buyers of Venezuelan crude oil. However, in early 2019, the U.S. imposed sanctions on Venezuelan oil imports. Since this time, Valero has been sourcing its oil from North America and other suppliers. According to the company’s website, its fuel is still TOP TIER.
