Gas Stations That Cash Checks

While there aren’t very many gas stations that will cash checks of any kind today, there are still some that do offer this service. Typically gas stations that are attached to grocery stores will be able to cash checks, although not necessarily at the gas station itself; you will most likely need to go into the grocery store to have your check cashed. Here is a list of major gas stations that will cash checks, including payroll checks, government checks, and personal checks.

Kroger

• Cashes checks?: Yes, but only inside of a Kroger store and not at the actual gas station.
• Additional information: Kroger stores do not cash personal checks. Fees may vary by location. However, payroll checks, government checks, tax refund checks, insurance checks, and corporate checks can be cashed. A current ID and a social security number or individual taxpayer identification number will be required.

• Find the nearest Kroger store with a fuel center. Be sure to expand the menu labeled “Show stores with…” to find a Kroger store that has a gas station.

Meijer

• Cashes checks?: Yes, but only at the Meijer Customer Service Desk and not inside the actual gas station.
• Additional information: Meijer does not cash personal checks. However, personal checks can be used as a form of payment. You may write a check for up to $5 over the purchase amount at a Meijer gas station for cash back. Meijer will cash payroll checks up to $1,000 and government checks up to $1,999. Checks must not be dated more than 30 days prior. To cash a check, customers must enroll in the Certegy verification system with valid ID and meet a seven-day waiting period prior to cashing. Fees may vary by location.

Pilot/Flying J Travel Centers

• Cashes checks?: Yes.
• Additional information: Check cashing services are available at all locations 24 hours a day. Customers can cash a check (up to $999.99) for a fee, which can vary by location. Customers who purchase a minimum of 25 gallons can cash a check up to $200 for free at the same location within two hours of fueling. Proper identification is needed to cash a check and the check’s authenticity will be verified.
