Ford Paint Warranty Policy

New Ford vehicles come with a Bumper to Bumper warranty that guarantees against factory defects and most mechanical issues for three years or 36,000 miles (whichever comes first).^[1] The warranty includes complete coverage for:

• Any factory defects that affect appearance issues, including sheet metal, upholstery, trim, and paint^[1]
• Paint corrosion that is not caused by use or environmental conditions^[1]
• All parts that fail through normal use due to factory defects^[1]
• Tires that are defective or fail through factory workmanship^[1]

We also contacted two Ford dealerships to confirm that paint damage due to factory defects and corrosion that doesn’t result from normal use or environmental conditions is covered under the Bumper to Bumper warranty. However, it will not cover paint damage from accidents or vehicle misuse.^[1]

Additionally, Ford covers paint damage on new vehicles due to airborne material — outside of factory defects and warranty terms — for the first 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first).^[1] New vehicles are also covered by a five-year, unlimited mileage corrosion warranty that covers paint damage beyond the three-year warranty period, provided the paint damage is due to corrosion that results in perforation (holes) in the vehicle body. If the corrosion has not perforated the vehicle, paint damage is not covered beyond three years or 36,000 miles.^[1]

Extended Warranty Options

Ford offers several extended warranty plans (for an additional charge) that cover new vehicles longer and more comprehensively. These extended warranties cover repairs for both factory defects and damage to the vehicle through normal use. There are four levels available under the Ford Protect Extended Service Plan, but none of these offer additional paint warranties.^[2]

Ford Used Vehicle Warranty

Ford certified pre-owned vehicles come with a limited warranty covering 12 months or 12,000 miles, which includes coverage for brakes, electrical and safety systems, steering components, and more. However, the limited warranty and extended service plans for used Ford vehicles do not cover paint.^[3]
