Both food assistance and cash benefits will typically appear on your EBT card between midnight and 8 a.m. on the deposit date, but the exact time varies by state. We list the deposit time for each state below.

Note that if you have a bank account, you may have the option to get your cash benefits deposited into your bank account rather than your EBT card; the deposit time will be the same with either option.

Your deposit date will also vary depending on your state’s cash and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) issuance schedule. Most states base your deposit date on your recipient ID number; for example, ID numbers ending in “1” might receive benefits on the fifth of each month, while ID numbers ending in “8” will receive benefits on the 19th. You can check with your local benefits agency for its issuance schedule.

If your EBT deposit doesn’t appear on your card as expected, you’ll need to contact your state’s EBT customer service line. (Our related research details how to check your EBT balance.) Customer service agents told us that if you don’t receive your benefits, you should always call your state EBT hotline rather than reporting it through your online account or app. See our research on lost EBT cards for the list of each state’s EBT contact number.
