Does World Market Accept EBT?

Some World Market stores take EBT; we contacted various locations across the U.S. and about 35% of those we called said they do accept EBT.

The SNAP program is overseen by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). To become a USDA-authorized EBT/SNAP retailer, a World Market store must meet one of the following criteria:

• Must stock a specific variety and quantity of staple food items
• Must make more than 50% of its gross retail sales from staple food items

World Market stores typically carry more housewares than staple food items, so many locations do not meet the above requirements — but some do.

Finding EBT-Approved Locations

Contact your nearest World Market to find out about its status as a SNAP-approved retailer, or check the USDA’s SNAP retailer locator. Keep in mind, a retailer’s status can change, so if your local store does not currently accept EBT, it may take EBT in the future.

Note that while we contacted stores in several states, we did not contact every World Market location, so our estimation of 35% may not reflect the proportion of EBT-accepting stores companywide. Corporate representatives for World Market were unable to confirm the total number of EBT-approved stores.

EBT-Eligible Purchases

SNAP recipients can only use benefits to buy food items like bread, meat, and packaged snacks. Before you shop, you may want to check out our list of what you can and cannot buy with EBT. You will need to purchase any EBT-ineligible items in a separate transaction with a different payment method, such as cash or credit card.
