Does WinCo Cash Checks?

WinCo Foods cashes printed payroll checks up to $1,000. It does not cash two-party checks, finance company loan checks, money orders (except WinCo Foods money orders), illegible checks, post-dated checks, insurance checks, out-of-state checks, or checks older than 30 days, a corporate customer service representative said. You can cash up to two payroll checks within a seven-day period, as long as each transaction is within the $1,000 limit.

We contacted WinCo Foods locations in Arizona, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah to confirm this information.

Check Cashing Fees

WinCo charges check cashing fees in the form of tokens, which act like in-store coupons. You’ll be charged $5 to cash a check under $500 and $10 to cash a check over $500. A $5 token is redeemable on purchases of at least $25; a $10 token is redeemable on purchases of at least $50.

Requirements

In order to cash a check at WinCo, you’ll need to show a valid government-issued photo ID. Acceptable forms of ID include a driver’s license, state-issued ID, U.S. military ID, resident alien ID, matricula consular ID, U.S. or non-U.S. passport, and tribal ID (from any U.S. Indian reservation).

The address on your ID must match the address printed on the paycheck. Additionally, several of the WinCo store associates we contacted said they would need to contact your employer by phone for verbal employment verification the visit time you try cashing a payroll check at WinCo.

Store Hours

While many WinCo Foods locations are open 24 hours, check cashing services are only available at the customer service desk between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. at most stores. For specific customer service hours, contact your local WinCo Foods directly.
