Short Answer

Vons accepts both EBT and WIC for qualifying grocery purchases. For more information on using EBT and WIC at Vons, including what you can and cannot buy, see below.

Does Vons Accept EBT?

Vons accepts EBT cards, meaning you can use your Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits at Vons.

When using your EBT card, you must purchase SNAP-approved foods, such as bread, dairy products, meat, fruit, and vegetables. Prepared foods like hot, ready-to-eat meals do not qualify. See our related research for the full list of what you can and can’t buy with EBT.

How to Use EBT at Vons

To pay for your purchases with EBT at Vons, go to the register as you normally would. When all of your items have been scanned, and you’re ready to pay, you will swipe your EBT card through the card reader, just as you would with a debit or credit card.

Note that if you are only paying for a portion of your purchase with EBT, you should slide your EBT card first. Your EBT card will pay for the eligible items, and you can then pay for any EBT-ineligible items with another payment method, such as a credit card or cash.

Other Stores That Accept EBT

Most major grocery store chains accept EBT, as do some convenience stores and food delivery services. For details of these options, see our lists of grocery stores that take SNAP benefits, EBT food delivery options, and convenience stores/gas stations that take EBT.

Does Vons Accept WIC?

Vons accepts WIC for purchases of eligible items like infant formula, peanut butter, cereal, and cheese.

Note that because WIC specifically serves pregnant women, new mothers, and young children, its list of approved foods is different from the list of SNAP-eligible foods. You can find more information about eligible products and brands at the USDA Food and Nutrition Service website.

How to Use WIC at Vons

Depending on your state, you may receive your WIC benefits either on a card or as printed coupons/checks. If your benefits are on a card, you will use the same payment process as described for EBT cards above. If you have a printed voucher, present it to the cashier; it will cover all eligible items. With either a card or vouchers, you can pay any remaining amount after your benefits are spent with a second payment method, such as cash. Note that you should always use your WIC benefits first if you are using multiple payment methods.
