Gas stations are everywhere, making them a convenient place to stop for a snack, a coffee, or a trip to the bathroom. Some stations even have ATM machines, but they often charge a fee. So if you need cash, why not spend that fee money on a pack of gum instead and get some cash back from the register? Does Shell give cash back? Yes. In this article, we’ll tell you how to avoid those ATM fees and instead get cash back at Shell.

Shell Cash Back Policy

Note: Shell gas stations are independently owned, so not all of them will participate in cash back, and those that do may differ slightly in their policies.

We called various Shell stations and learned that you can get up to $40 in cash back from any purchase as low as $0.01, and there’s no fee. They accept debit and checks as viable payment methods for cash back, although some stores are unable to accept checks because not all store have the necessary scanning machine to process checks. If you need more than $40, you’ll have to make multiple transactions.

Though there is technically no limit to the number of transactions you can make in one day, it’s unlikely that Shell will allow you to make enough transactions to get a large sum of money as cash back, since their cash registers don’t hold much cash. If you need a lot of cash, you’ll probably be referred to the store’s ATM machine (if there is one).

If you don’t happen to live near a Shell station, don’t worry. A lot of other gas stations give cash back. Most gas stations will only give small amounts of cash back (usually $10 to $40) and generally only for purchases made with credit cards.
