Short Answer

You can use your EBT card at Grocery Outlet’s stores. For more details on using EBT at Grocery Outlet, see below.

Does Grocery Outlet Take EBT?

Grocery Outlet accepts EBT at its stores. Note that Grocery Outlet doesn’t allow customers to shop online; you cannot use EBT for grocery delivery or pickup at its stores (as previously reported). We confirmed this information with customer service representatives for Grocery Outlet and the USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) retailer locator.

EBT-Eligible Items

Grocery Outlet sells name-brand and private-label grocery products at discount or closeout prices; the inventory changes regularly. Although this focus on discounted products sets it apart from many other grocery stores, you can use your EBT card for many of the same items you would purchase at other stores, including:

  • Bread
  • Cereal
  • Dairy products
  • Fruit
  • Meat
  • Pasta
  • Rice
  • Sauce and spices
  • Vegetables

For more information, see our dedicated research on what you can and can’t buy with EBT.

Using EBT at Grocery Outlet

Your EBT card functions like a debit card and will cover any EBT-eligible item you purchase at Grocery Outlet — as long as you have a high enough balance to cover all of the items. (Find out how to check your EBT balance.)

If your order includes products that are not eligible for EBT or your balance doesn’t cover your entire purchase, you can swipe your EBT card first to pay for eligible items with your SNAP balance, then complete your order with a second form of payment like a debit card, credit card, or cash.
