DICK’S Sporting Goods doesn’t offer layaway, according to customer service representatives. The store does not offer a layaway program at any time — not even during the holidays. Layaway programs allow you to put a down payment on a purchase and make regular payments until the item(s) are paid off. Once you’ve paid off the purchase in full, you get to take the item home. Layaway can be convenient if you don’t have an urgent need for the items because there is often no credit check required, and you typically do not pay any additional fees or interest — just the purchase price of the item(s).

Instead of layaway installment payments, DICK’S accepts most major debit and credit cards, as well as gift cards and PayPal (as previously reported).

Ways to Save Money at DICK’S Sporting Goods

If you are looking to save money on your purchases at DICK’S Sporting Goods, you can participate in the ScoreCard Program. For every dollar you spend, you earn one point. Once you reach 300 points, you receive a $10 reward. Purchases made at DICK’S, Field & Stream, Golf Galaxy, and their accompanying online stores are all eligible for points. There are also opportunities to boost your points by redeeming special offers sent through mail, email, and via DICK’S Sporting goods app. Membership is free, and you can sign up in-store or enroll online.

For a financing option that allows you to purchase an item, take it home immediately, and pay over time, you can apply for the Rewards of Sport credit card. Upon credit approval, you can qualify for either a six-month financing plan on a purchase of $299 or more or a 12-month financing plan on a purchase of $399 or more. Other perks of the Rewards of Sport credit card include 6% back in rewards on in-store purchases, two points for $1 of in-store purchases, and 1% back in rewards anywhere Mastercard is accepted. For more information on these special financing options, see the Rewards of Sport credit card benefits.

Finally, if you are able to find an item at a lower price from a competing retailer, DICK’S Sporting Goods will match the price of a competitor’s online or print ad (as previously reported).

Stores That Do Have Layaway

While DICK’S doesn’t do layaway, a variety of similar retailers do offer layaway plans. Some retailers might have restrictions, such as a required minimum down payment, a specific time frame when layaway is offered, a credit check, or strict cancellation policies. A few stores that sell sporting equipment and offer layaway programs include:

  • Kmart
  • Sears
  • Walmart
  • Foot Locker

For even more options,, see our list of places that do layaway (both online and in-store).
