Where to Buy Gift Cards Online & Pick up in Stores (+ Where You Can’t)

Short Answer

Most stores do not offer the option to purchase a gift card online and pick it up in a store. However, Best Buy allows you to purchase third-party gift cards on BestBuy.com and pick them up at your local store. Where To Buy Gift Cards Online & Pick up in Stores

Most stores do not give you the option to purchase a plastic gift card online and pick it up at a store. The only store we contacted that has a store pick-up option for plastic gift cards is Best Buy. You can order plastic gift cards online at BestBuy.com. You will choose between store pick-up (ready in as little as one hour) or free USPS delivery, which takes up to one week.

Note that store pick-up is subject to availability; certain gift cards may be temporarily out of stock at your nearest location. Best Buy will send you an email when your gift card is ready at the pick-up area of the customer service desk. Be prepared to show a photo ID and your email confirmation.

Exclusions

All third-party retail, restaurant, travel, and gaming gift cards for sale online at Best Buy are eligible for store pick-up; however, Best Buy does not sell Visa and Mastercard gift cards online.

Additionally, store pick-up is not available for Best Buy’s own gift cards. You can buy these gift cards in-store or online, but when you purchase them online, they are only available to ship to an address.

Payment & Fees

You can pay by credit card, debit card, or PayPal when buying gift cards from Best Buy’s website. There are no additional fees for Best Buy’s store pick-up option — simply choose your local store at checkout.

We contacted over 25 additional retailers and found that they only offer home delivery for plastic gift cards, which takes up to 10 days. The following stores do not offer store pick-up for gift cards:
