You can return a new car battery within 45 days of purchase at Advance Auto Parts. With a receipt, you’ll receive a full refund to your original payment method. Without a receipt, you’ll be issued a merchandise credit for the lowest sale price of the battery in the past 45 days. Used batteries cannot be returned. You may, however, be able to file a warranty claim in-store with proof of purchase. For more details, see below.

Advance Auto Parts Battery Return Policy

Advance Auto Parts allows car battery returns within 45 days of purchase as long as the battery has not been used and is in new condition, Advance Auto Parts’ corporate customer service department told us. Used batteries cannot be returned; you cannot return a battery that has been installed or used in any capacity. We confirmed this information with store associates at Advance Auto Parts locations in Arizona, Maine, North Dakota, Ohio, and Oregon.

For a full refund, you’ll need to bring the receipt and a valid photo ID. Your refund will be issued to your original form of payment; if you paid with a credit card, you should bring the credit card you used with you. Without a receipt, you’ll be issued a merchandise credit in the amount of the lowest sale price for the battery in the past 45 days.

Advance Auto Parts is not able to look up receipts.

Returns can be processed at any time during regular store hours.

Keep in mind, the 45-day return window is not extended during the holidays. Beyond 45 days, you will not be able to return the battery. Warranty Returns

AutoCraft batteries sold at Advance Auto Parts have a one- to three-year limited warranty. If your AutoCraft battery is within its warranty period and does not work properly, you can file a warranty claim at your local Advance Auto Parts store.

Typically, a store associate will test the battery to determine whether or not it qualifies for a replacement.

All warranty claims require the original receipt and a manager’s approval.

Online Orders

You can place an online order for a car battery on Advance Auto Parts’ website for in-store pickup. To make a return on an online order, you’ll need to visit an Advance Auto Parts store; you cannot return a battery by mail. A copy of your receipt can be found in your online account.

Limited Returns

Advance Auto Parts tracks customer returns and can limit your returns and exchanges. Your ID will be used to track your return and exchange transactions. Accepted forms of ID include a driver’s license, state ID, military ID, permanent resident card, or border crossing card.
