13 Prepaid Cards With EMV Chips (+ Which Ones Don’t Have Chips)

EMV chips are included on the front of many prepaid debit cards. The small silver or gold square contains a microprocessor computer chip that allows you to insert the card into the reader rather than swipe it when paying for purchases.

EMV chip technology gives a unique transaction code to each purchase, which the magnetic strip does not; the EMV chip also provides stronger transaction and fraud security. Note that EVMs are not the same as the dove hologram that Visa uses on its cards. While Visa’s dove hologram does have anti-counterfeit features, you can’t complete a transaction with it.
