There are a wide variety of places you can get $2 bills — most commonly through online retailers or banks. See our list below for places where you can get $2 bills.

Banks and Credit Unions

Most banks offer $2 bills, according to the U.S. Department of the Treasury. We spoke with representatives from several banks to confirm that they can provide $2 bills. While there aren’t any fees related to withdrawing $2 bills, banks might not have $2 bills on hand at all times. You may want to call in advance so it can order the bills for you.

In addition to the banks listed above, all legitimate banks can reach out to the Federal Reserve to get freshly minted bills; you can contact your local branch to request this service. Note banks have a minimum number of bills to order (usually a sheet of 100 bills).

Online Retailers

While banks are typically the most convenient place to find $2 bills, you may also be able to get them through the following online retailers:

• Craigslist
• eBay
• Walmart.com

Note that the safest place to exchange bills is at a bank. Online sellers may provide counterfeit bills or feature listings for $2 bills that are not legal currency (such as collectible or “gag gift” bills that look similar to real bills).

Places That Don’t Have $2 Bills

While some retailers may occasionally have them, most stores don’t offer $2 bills. They are still in circulation, but people tend to keep them, and cash registers don’t have space for them. The following places generally don’t have $2 bills on hand:
