Does Massage Envy Take Insurance?

Massage Envy does not take insurance and does not work directly with any health insurance providers. However, massage therapy can be considered a medical expense, which means you may be able to pay with money from your FSA or HSA at Massage Envy if you get a prescription for therapeutic massages.

FSA and HSA accounts are funded with pretax dollars from your paychecks. Massage therapy is often eligible for these programs because it is known to ease the following conditions:

• Arthritis
• Carpal tunnel syndrome
• Depression
• Headaches
• High blood pressure
• Lower back pain
• Muscle tension
• Poor balance
• Sports injuries
• Stress

You cannot use FSA and HSA dollars to pay for tips or non-massage services, or to pay for a Massage Envy membership upfront; you will need to bring another form of payment for these expenses. You do not need a membership to book a massage at Massage Envy.

We reached out to Massage Envy locations in multiple states — including California, Florida, Massachusetts, New York, Nebraska, and New Mexico — to gather information about Massage Envy’s insurance acceptance policy.

Prescriptions for Massage Therapy

In order to ensure that your massage therapy session will be eligible for your FSA or HSA dollars, you should visit your doctor, explain your condition, and get a prescription. Your doctor will need to provide the following information on the prescription:

• The medical necessity of massage therapy
• The number of sessions you need per month
• How long treatment will be necessary

You should not need to bring the prescription to Massage Envy in order to pay; simply use your FSA or HSA card. You can instead submit the prescription to your FSA or HSA administrator before you pay for the massage. Note that even with a prescription, eligible services for FSA or HSA spending will vary depending on your plan.

Other Wellness Incentives

All health insurance companies operate independently, so it could be worth contacting your provider directly to see if it offers reimbursements for health and wellness expenses. Additionally, some employers offer their own wellness programs and discounts, which may include savings at Massage Envy or other massage therapy providers.
