Many local banks and credit unions offer custom debit cards and personalized credit cards at no additional cost. A few national banks, such as BB&T, M&T, Wells Fargo, and Capital One, also offer custom debit cards and personalized credit cards. Custom prepaid debit cards are also available from GiftCards.com, Gift Card Mall, Greenlight, and Netspend. Fees range from $4.95 to nearly $10.

And, you can get personalized gift cards from select national retailers such as Dunkin’ and Tim Hortons for between $1 and $3 extra in fees. For more details on where to get custom debit cards, credit cards, prepaid debit cards, and gift cards, see below.

Where to Get Custom Debit Cards

Numerous local banks and credit unions offer customizable debit cards. We found the following national and regional banks and credit unions that allow you to customize debit cards with your own photo:

Where custom debit cards are available, there are typically no extra fees. Your design will, however, need to pass through your bank’s approval process to ensure the image is appropriate and follows the required upload guidelines. In most cases, you can expect to receive your card within four to 10 business days.

Where to Get Personalized Credit Cards

Options for personalized credit cards are also somewhat limited. Two large banks that do allow you to upload custom credit card designs are Wells Fargo and Capital One. Like custom debit cards, you’ll need to upload a design or image and wait for approval. Once your design is approved, you can expect to receive your card in a few business days. There are typically no additional fees to customize a credit card.

While you can’t upload your own image, Discover offers a selection of specialized designs you can choose from.

Modifying Existing Credit Cards

There are a select few third-party businesses that can help you modify or decorate an existing credit card.

Lion Credit Card and Metal-CreditCard.com will take an unactivated card, transfer the EMV chip and magnetic strip to a new card, and recast it in metal. You can engrave bespoke designs on your metal card and even have it cast in 24-karat gold. Costs range anywhere from $100 to more than $300, depending on the details of your customization.

For a less expensive option, CUCU Colors sells customizable stick-on covers that go on top of your debit, credit, or gift cards. You can choose from a selection of designs for about $7 or upload your own image for about $8.

Custom Prepaid Debit Cards

A number of national and online retailers offer personalized Visa gift cards and Mastercard gift cards that you can customize by uploading your own picture to use as the card’s backdrop. While some retailers list these prepaid debit cards as gift cards, they work the same as a prepaid card. You can buy custom prepaid debit cards from the following retailers:

Personalized Gift Cards

A few retailers sell gift cards that can be personalized. Tim Hortons, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Marcus Theatres will allow you to either upload an image or customize the text on a gift card.

There is typically an additional fee to personalize a retailer gift card. For example, Tim Hortons charges a $2.99 fee for a personalized gift card, Dunkin’ charges $1 for a personalized gift card, and Marcus Theatres charges $2 for a personalized gift card. Much like with banks, retailers will approve or deny your design; designs are subject to image guidelines and requirements.
