You can return or exchange almost any item at just about any time to Publix as long as you have the receipt. Can’t find your receipt? A Publix store associate may be able to look up your purchase. Items can be perishable or nonperishable — and can even be opened. Publix Return Policy

The Publix Guarantee allows for returns and exchanges on most items for any reason as long as you have the receipt. On its website, Publix states:

The purpose of our guarantee remains to satisfy the customer. … If for any reason your purchase does not give you complete satisfaction, the full purchase price will be cheerfully refunded immediately upon request.”

Returns and exchanges can be made at the customer service desk any time the store is open.

Publix Return Policy Without Receipt

If you don’t have the receipt, a Publix store associate may be able to look up your transaction. Doing so is much easier if you made your purchase with a debit card, advised a Publix corporate customer service representative reached by calling (800) 242-1227.

Refunds on returns made without a receipt will be issued at the store associate’s discretion. Returns made with a receipt can be refunded to your original payment method or may be refunded in cash regardless of the original payment method.

Time Limit on Returns

There is no set time limit on returns at Publix, the representative said. And, while you can make a return at any Publix grocery store, you’ll want to keep in mind that not all stores carry the same items. This can make exchanging an item difficult.

Return Restrictions

You can return perishable and nonperishable items; items can even be opened. For example, one of our team members purchased a pint of ice cream at a Publix in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., only to discover upon returning home that someone had opened the container in-store and scooped some out. After returning to the store and presenting the receipt, our team member received a cash refund.

Publix also allows alcohol returns where they are permitted by local and state governments.
