How to Price Match

When a store is willing to match or beat a price you find for an item at a competing store, it’s called price matching. Price match policies vary by retailer, but, typically, you can get a price match by showing proof of a competitor’s lower price. Evidence of a lower price can be a photo of the on-shelf price at a local store, a photo of in-store signage, a printed advertisement, an online advertisement, or the online item price from the retailer’s website.

In-store, you can typically ask for a price match and show proof of a lower price to the store manager. For online purchases, you can often call, email, or chat with a customer service representative. The store manager or customer service representative will likely review the evidence, determine whether the price qualifies for a match, and may contact the competitor to confirm the price. Most price matches are approved or denied at a store manager’s or representative’s discretion.
