Furniture stores sometimes offer haul-away services for old furniture when delivering new furniture — but there are often specific purchase requirements. And, some furniture stores — including Bob’s Discount Furniture and Raymour & Flanigan — will only take away specific items like mattresses and/or box springs. After hauling away your old items, the store may throw them away, recycle them, or incinerate them. Below, we have the list of furniture stores that take away old furniture (including the rules for each store), plus a list of stores that don’t offer furniture removal.

The List of Furniture Stores That Take Away Old Furniture

Most major furniture stores offer delivery and/or assembly services — and some will even take away your old furniture at the time of delivery. We’ve compiled the list of national and regional furniture stores that offer furniture removal services. To confirm each retailer’s haul-away policy, we checked their websites, contacted their corporate customer service departments, and called a few store locations for further details.

Note: We were unable to find any furniture stores that will remove your old furniture without a new furniture purchase. And, in general, stores that do take away old furniture will only remove certain items.

American Furniture Warehouse

American Furniture Warehouse has store locations in Arizona and Colorado.

  • Items eligible for haul-away: Mattresses and sleep sets
  • Fees: $30 per item
  • Restrictions: Haul-away is available in the Denver and Phoenix metro areas only. You must purchase a new mattress or sleep set from American Furniture Warehouse.

Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture

Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture has store locations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

  • Items eligible for haul-away: All furniture items
  • Fees: About $50 for one item and about $100 for two to five items; haul-away for more than five items will cost $100 plus $20 for each additional item over the fifth item
  • Restrictions: Removed items must match the items you purchase. For example, if you purchase two chairs, Bernie & Phyl’s will take away two old chairs.

Bob’s Discount Furniture

Bob’s Discount Furniture has store locations in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

  • Items eligible for haul-away: Mattresses and mattress foundations
  • Fees: None; haul-away is included when you choose BOBtastic White Glove Delivery
  • Restrictions: Must choose BOBtastic White Glove Delivery. All items for removal must be in sanitary condition.
  • Disposal method: Incinerator

IKEA has store locations nationwide.

  • Items eligible for haul-away: All furniture items and appliances
  • Fees: Vary; IKEA partners with various third-party delivery and removal service providers
  • Restrictions: Must purchase a similar product from IKEA

  • Fees: Generally, $10 per item; an additional charge may apply for king-size beds
