Short Answer

Sam’s Club Optical Centers commonly accept several major insurance brands, including Avesis, Community Eye Care, MESVision, Spectera, and UnitedHealthcare. However, the exact list of approved insurance plans will vary by location. Sam’s Club does not sell prescription glasses, reading glasses, or contacts online. For more details on Sam’s Club optical insurance acceptance, see below.

Optical Insurance Accepted at Sam’s Club

Sam’s Club Optical Centers accept various insurance plans depending on your location. To determine which insurance companies Sam’s Club Optical accepts, we checked the provider directories of each vision insurance company listed below. We also contacted Sam’s Club locations in California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, and Texas to confirm the directory listings.

The following insurance companies are commonly accepted at Sam’s Club Optical Centers:

  • Avesis[1]
  • Community Eye Care[2]
  • Davis Vision[3]
  • FEP BlueVision[4]
  • Heritage Vision Plans[5]
  • MESVision[6]
  • NVA[7]
  • Spectera[8]
  • Superior Vision[9]
  • UnitedHealthcare[10]

Note that although a Sam’s Club membership isn’t required to make an optometrist appointment at the Optical Center, you will need a membership to purchase optical products like contact lenses and eyeglass frames.[11] Sam’s Club does not sell prescription glasses, readers, or contacts online, and it also does not accept insurance as payment on its website.

Additionally, keep in mind that your coverage will also depend on your specific vision plan; some plans, for instance, cover materials (like lenses and frames), but not eye exams. Sams’ Club recommends contacting your intended Optical Center location for the full list of accepted plans, as well as information about covered products and services.

Insurance Not Accepted at Sam’s Club

Sam’s Club Optical is not in-network for individual VSP insurance plans. It does, however, accept some VSP employee plans, such as the VSP Walmart Vision Plan.[12] Additionally, none of the Sam’s Club Optical Centers we contacted accepted the following insurance providers:

  • Aetna
  • Ameritas
  • EyeMed
  • Humana
  • MetLife
  • VBA

Does Sam’s Club accept NVA (National Vision Administrators, LLC) insurance?? I didn’t see it on any of the lists?

Hello, Renae! We contacted a few Sam’s Club Optical locations and were told that they do accept NVA. We have updated our research to reflect this. However, note that accepted insurers vary by Sam’s Club location, and your coverage may also vary depending on your NVA group/sponsor. It’s a good idea to check the NVA provider locator or contact your local Sam’s Club to confirm before visiting. Best of luck!

I was in Sam’s Club and they said that they accept VSP business group insurance plans, but not individual ones.
