Short Answer

The Costco tire return policy allows you to “try and drive” for up to 30 days. If you are unsatisfied with the tires, you can either return them for a refund (minus the original installation costs) or exchange them for a different set. To learn more about the Costco tire return policy, see below.

Costco Tire Return Policy Explained

Costco Wholesale lets you return or exchange tires within 30 days of purchase, store associates said. The return policy outlined on Costco’s website does not give specifics about tire returns, so we contacted Costco tire centers in Alabama, Florida, Kansas, and Nebraska for details.

You may want to keep your old tires handy until you’re sure about your purchase. After Costco installs new tires, it typically disposes of the old ones, store associates said. If your old tires are not safe, Costco will not reinstall them for you; however, you can also exchange your Costco tires for a different brand or style from Costco so you can drive home.

Tire Return Policy Exceptions

Certain conditions can render Costco’s tire return policy null and void. For example, you can’t return tires if you’ve been in an accident or have taken them off-roading or drag racing, a store associate said. Additionally, if the tires are defective and under warranty, Costco may issue a replacement rather than a refund.

How to Return Tires at Costco

To request a tire return at Costco, you will need to visit the Tire Service Center. Costco Tire Service Center hours vary slightly by location, but are usually 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

The Tire Service Center will either process the return completely, accompany you to the returns desk, or take the tires and then provide you with a return form, which you will need to take to the returns desk inside of Costco to complete the process.

If the tires you are returning are installed on your vehicle, you will need to either bring safe, good-condition tires to install in place of those you are returning or exchange your tires rather than returning them, as noted above. You should also bring your original receipt, though an associate may be able to find your purchase using your Costco membership.

Costco Tire Refunds

Costco will issue a refund to your original form of payment for accepted tire returns. There is no restocking fee. However, depending on the details of your return, Costco usually will not offer a refund for the original installation costs and may prorate the refund amount based on the remaining tread depth.
