What Is the Sleep Number Bed Weight Limit?

Sleep Number mattresses are adjustable and can be customized to each person’s preferred level of firmness. What makes them adjustable are the air chambers located inside the mattresses; the air chambers connect to a pump that can add or remove air to adjust the firmness. The weight limit of Sleep Number beds depends on the number of air chambers in the mattress.

We spoke with several Sleep Number corporate customer service representatives and each advised us that there is a weight limit of 400 pounds per air chamber. Sleep Number mattresses come in six sizes. Each size comes with either one or two air chambers.

• Twin, Twin XL, and Full mattresses come with one air chamber and have a total weight limit of 400 pounds per bed.
• Queen, King, and California King mattresses come with two air chambers — one on each side — and have a total weight limit of 800 pounds per bed.

If the weight limit is exceeded, the lifespan of the mattress may be affected. Excessive weight can also cause leaks in the air chambers over time, the representatives said.

For comparison, Casper and Purple say on their websites that their mattresses have no weight limit.
