Life Time memberships cost more than some other gym memberships, but Life Time offers several amenities like towel service, child care, and indoor and outdoor pools. A Life Time membership may be worth the cost, depending on what you use the gym for. For information on what’s included with a Life Time membership and how to tell if it’s worth the cost for you, see below.

Is Life Time Fitness Worth It?

Life Time gyms offer a wide range of amenities and fitness classes. Its locations are even described to prospective members, both online and by member service representatives, as luxury health clubs. We’ll discuss the cost of a Life Time membership, what you get for the price, and whether the membership is worth the cost.

Cost of a Life Time Membership

Life Time’s single membership fee varies from $45 to nearly $200 per month, depending on the location. In addition to the monthly fee, there is a one-time enrollment fee. This fee is generally about $100. (There are about three or four times a year that Life Time will waive the enrollment fee, customer service representatives from several Life Time locations across the country said. Life Time usually makes this offer available on Black Friday and a few other holidays.)

You may be eligible for a corporate discount through your workplace. Life Time partners with corporations to increase employee fitness levels and help lower medical claims. Be sure to check with your employer to see if it participates in Life Time’s corporate program. If it does, you can request a corporate discount when you sign up.

What’s Included in a Life Time Membership?

We’ve listed Life Time’s amenities, classes, and services to give you a better idea of whether or not a Life Time membership is worth the cost for you.

Amenities

Life Time member benefits include towel service, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, lounges with Wi-Fi access, locker rooms, saunas, steam rooms, and whirlpools. In comparison, other gyms like Gold’s Gym and Planet Fitness do not have towel service (as previously reported).

Classes

Group fitness classes available at Life Time include:

  • Indoor cycle
  • Pilates
  • Studio classes such as Barbell, Kettlebell, TRX, and WTRX
  • Yoga classes, including meditation and Vinyasa

Special events like “Bootcamp & BBQ” and “Cycle & Champagne” are also included with your membership.

For comparison, we looked into classes offered by a yoga studio with locations nationwide. A single CorePower Yoga class is about $20. With a Life Time membership, you’re able to attend as many yoga classes as you wish. Blankets, blocks, mats, towels, and weights are provided.

Services

Life Time locations have salons, nutrition counseling, physical therapy, and spa services available. Life Time also offers two hours of daily child care to its members at no additional cost. Other gyms like Planet Fitness do not offer onsite child care, and those that do often charge a fee on top of membership costs. In addition to child care, Life Time has an array of activities for children of all ages, including classes, camps, and birthday parties.

Life Time also has several free trial options for new members and guests of members:

  • You can sign up for a day pass online. To request a day pass, you must be at least 18 and have a valid photo ID.
  • Life Time gives new members in the U.S. a seven-day free membership.
  • A three-week trial may be available, member services representatives at several Life Time locations said. Three-week trials are given at the management’s discretion in certain situations, such as when an out-of-town family member is visiting a current member in good standing.

Is Life Time Worth the Cost?

If you will take advantage of the above-listed amenities, classes, and services, Life Time’s membership fees may be worth the cost. However, if you just want a place to hop on a treadmill for an hour and then head home, a cheaper option like Planet Fitness is probably a better fit for you.

Keep in mind, Life Time also has a good reputation within the fitness community and was mentioned in an article featuring the 10 best gyms to join in 2019. (Health magazine and Club Industry listed Life Time among the top gyms in 2018.)

In Summary

So, is Life Time worth it? A Life Time gym membership costs more than some other gyms, but Life Time offers more in the way of amenities and services. Customers who will take advantage of Life Time’s pool and sauna facilities, towel service, group fitness classes, child care, more will get the most from their membership fees.
