GameStop doesn’t buy used laptops, desktops, or any other type of traditional computer. However, it does accept smartphones, tablets, and gaming devices for sale or trade-in. Other businesses that buy used computers include Amazon.com, Best Buy, and Gadget Salvation. For all of the details of GameStop’s computer buyback program and other places to sell your computer, see below.

Does GameStop Buy Laptops?

GameStop does not buy used computers. Though the gaming retailer’s website lists several types of electronics you can sell or trade in, it does not accept laptops, desktops, or any other type of proper computer. We confirmed this information with store associates at GameStop locations in Florida, Iowa, Oklahoma, Texas, and California. In addition to video games, gaming consoles, and related accessories, GameStop will accept smartphones and tablets for sale or trade-in, store associates said.

There are other retailers that will buy used laptops and desktop computers. Note, though, that you’ll have an easier time selling a laptop than a desktop.

  • Amazon Trade-In is one of the easiest ways to sell a used computer. Amazon.com accepts various items for store credit and will even provide pre-paid shipping. Search by item type and model online to see its approximate trade-in value.
  • Best Buy’s Trade-In program gives you a store gift card in exchange for your used electronics. If your device has no trade-in value, Best Buy can safely recycle it for you. Not all Best Buy stores offer trade-ins, so you’ll want to use the store locator to find a participating store nearest you. Enter your ZIP code and select Trade-In under “Filter by Store Services” to see a list of stores.
  • Other online purchasers will pay you cash for your computer. Gadget Salvation purchases a wide variety of laptops, desktop computers, tablets, smartphones, video game consoles, cameras, and speakers. SellBroke lists several desktop computer brands it will buy. Mac of All Trades and Gazelle purchase only Apple products.

In Summary

Does GameStop take laptops? Nope. GameStop doesn’t buy used computers, but you can sell or trade in used smartphones, tablets, video game consoles, video games, and accessories. Amazon.com and Best Buy have trade-in programs for computers. And some online purchasers also buy used laptops and desktop computers.
