Does Walmart Accept Traveler’s Checks?
Walmart does not accept traveler’s checks, customer service representatives said. The superstore does not offer check-cashing services for traveler’s checks either.
Walmart accepts cash, debit cards, major credit cards (including American Express and Discover), personal checks, Walmart gift cards, EBT and WIC. Additionally, Walmart MoneyCenters cash personal checks, sell money orders, and cash money orders. You can also transfer money at Walmart stores.
Traveler’s checks aren’t as widely accepted as they used to be. We checked the policies of many stores similar to Walmart, including Big Lots, Publix, Sam’s Club, and Target, and found that they also do not accept traveler’s checks. Stores similar to Walmart that do accept traveler’s checks include Meijer and Costco (as previously reported).
Alternately, you can cash your traveler’s check if you’d like to use the money at Walmart and other stores. Money service stores like United Check Cashing and some grocery stores, including Food Lion and Giant Eagle, will cash traveler’s checks.
