Walmart Paint Return Policy

You can return home and garden products — including paint — to a Walmart store within 90 days of purchase, according to Walmart’s return policy.^[1] A Walmart customer service representative confirmed that this policy applies regardless of the reason for your return — the paint might have been mixed incorrectly, you bought too much, or, perhaps, you just didn’t like the color.

To return an item to Walmart, it must be in its original packaging and accompanied by a receipt.^[1] If you bought the paint online and you wish to return it in-store, you can look up your order online and print a return receipt. If you don’t have the receipt, you can exchange the item. If it was less than $25, you can get a cash refund without the receipt; if it was more than $25, you can get a refund in the form of a Walmart gift card. Additionally, if you don’t have the receipt, the store may also be able to look up your purchase using your email, phone number, or credit card.^[1] With the receipt, you’ll be refunded to your original form of payment.

Mail-In Return

If you purchased paint from Walmart.com or if you simply prefer to make the return by mail, you can do so by looking up your order online, printing the return label, and returning the paint in its original packaging within 90 days^[2] Mail-in returns can take two to three weeks to process, then you will receive your refund.

Returning Hazardous Materials

Note that if you are returning things like spray paint in aerosol cans by mail, you may need to get special packaging. If the paint has an ORM-D sticker (Other Regulated Materials-Domestic), you will need to get the appropriate packaging from your local post office.^[3]
