If you need to cash a check during non-business hours, don’t have a bank account, or simply want to get your check cashed quickly and conveniently, a check cashing ATM or kiosk may be the right solution. Here, we’ll discuss what you need to know about using check cashing machines.

What Is a Check Cashing Kiosk?

Check cashing kiosks are freestanding machines that allow you to cash paper checks. They’re usually found in retail or convenience stores, and are provided as a banking alternative for customers.

These machines typically have a touch screen interface. They use several types of third-party verification systems to ensure that the checks are genuine, and they charge users a fee for cashing checks. Many check cashing kiosks also offer additional services, such as gift card or prepaid debit card loading.

Types of Checks You Can Cash at a Check Cashing ATM or Kiosk

Most check cashing kiosks will accept payroll and government checks, such as Social Security and tax rebate checks. Depending on the company that provides them, check cashing machines may also cash other types of checks, such as personal checks and cashier’s checks.

What You Need to Bring to a Check Cashing ATM or Kiosk

In addition to the check you want to cash, you will need an official form of photo identification, such as a driver’s license or other state-issued ID. Remember that you still have to sign the back of the check in order to cash it at a kiosk.
