Short Answer

Target accepts most swimwear returns within 90 days for a full refund or exchange. If you used a Target RedCard for your swimwear purchase, you have 120 days to make a return, and you have up to one year if the swimsuit is a Target-owned brand like Kona Sol or Shade & Shore. Returns must be in new, unworn condition. Find more details about the Target swimwear return requirements below.

Target Swimwear Return Policy

Target accepts swimwear returns whether you purchased the swimsuit online or in stores. Your return period will vary depending on the brand and your payment method:

  • One year for Target-owned brands (such as Kona Sol, Shade & Shore, and Xhilaration)
  • 120 days for Target RedCard purchases
  • 90 days for all other swimsuit purchases

You can return swimwear you bought online to any Target store or by mail, but you must take in-store purchases back to a Target store.[1] Keep in mind that Target will not accept a swimwear return past the return policy time limit. The Target return policy is the same for gifts, clearance, and defective items, but the extended holiday return policy does not apply to swimwear.[1][2]

We contacted customer service representatives at stores in California, Indiana, Missouri, and Washington, all of which confirmed the use of the corporate policy.

Item Condition

The swimsuit you’re returning should be in new, unworn, and unwashed condition. Target will typically refuse returns and exchanges of swimsuits that have clearly been worn or washed, though store managers do have some discretion over returns.[2]

While your return will be easier if you have the tags still attached to your swimsuit, you should still be able to complete the return without tags, store representatives told us. (Our previous research features the details on returning clothing to Target without tags.) Note that if the suit has a garment protection sticker, the sticker should still be intact.

No-Receipt Returns

If you can’t find your receipt, Target may be able to find the transaction in its system if it has been more than 24 hours since your purchase. If you need to return a swimsuit on the same day you bought it, you will need the receipt. Otherwise, Target store associates can look up credit card, debit card, check, RedCard, and gift card transactions.[1]

If you paid with a check, bring a blank check from the same account; this will help the associate find the transaction in Target’s system. Store associates can also find gift card transactions if you provide the original gift card.[1]

If you have no receipt and the associate can’t find a record of your purchase, you won’t receive a cash or credit refund, but the store manager may offer a merchandise return card for the current price of the item.[1]

Return Process

In-Store Returns

To make an in-store return, take your swimsuit to the customer service counter during regular store hours. Be sure to bring your original payment method (unless you paid in cash), along with your ID. Target may track your return.[1]

Target typically issues refunds to your original payment method, but if you paid with cash, you can request the refund as cash, a Target gift card, or a credit to your Target RedCard.[1] For online purchases, your refund will include the original shipping costs if the item is defective or Target made an error with your order.[1][2]

Returns by Mail

To return your swimsuit by mail, print a free UPS return shipping label from your Target.com account. As with in-store returns, your refund will include the original shipping costs if the return is due to an error made by Target (e.g., a defective or incorrect item).[1]

Once Target receives your return, it can take up to 10 days to get your refund. If your original payment method is not on file, it may take up to 14 days to receive a refund check.[1]
