Short Answer

You can generally rent a full-sized Rug Doctor carpet cleaner from Hy-Vee at a cost of about $35 for 24 hours and $45 for 48 hours, plus the cost of any cleaning solution you want to add. Some locations also offer a portable cleaning machine for about $25 per day. For more details, see below.

Hy-Vee Carpet Cleaner Rentals

Hy-Vee rents Rug Doctor carpet cleaners at most of its locations. We reached out to multiple stores throughout Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, and Minnesota to determine their carpet cleaner rental policies.

Available Models and Prices

Most stores rent the Pro Deep Carpet Cleaner at a rate of about $35 for 24 hours and $45 for 48 hours. Comparably fewer Hy-Vee locations rent the Pro Portable Carpet Cleaner, and those that do charge about $25 per day.

Rug Doctor maintains a searchable database where you can find locations that rent the company’s products. However, please note that this database isn’t always accurate. Several Hy-Vee locations that we called did not have Pro Portable Carpet Cleaner available even though the website said that they rent it. The only way to determine current availability is to speak with a local Hy-Vee employee.

Solutions and Attachments

The Rug Doctor rental price does not include the cost of any cleaning solutions or attachments. You can rent the Pro Upholstery Tool attachment for a flat fee of $5.99. Rug Doctor-branded cleaning solutions are also available at Hy-Vee, and they range in cost from about $6 to $24.

Although Rug Doctor maintains a list of all of its solutions online, not every Hy-Vee location will carry all types. You might want to call your local store before visiting to find out what’s in stock. You can also use your own cleaning solution in a Rug Doctor carpet cleaner.

Additional Fees

Most Hy-Vee locations will require a deposit, which ranges from $5 to $15 plus tax. You will receive your deposit back if you return your machine to the store from which you rented it on time and clean.

If you return your carpet cleaner late, you will forfeit your deposit. Some Hy-Vee stores levy an additional $25 late fee. However, multiple Hy-Vee associates told us that if you call ahead of time and explain that you won’t be able to make a timely return, we will only pay a $10 extend fee.

Note that if you damage, destroy, or lose a Rug Doctor carpet cleaner, you are responsible for all replacement costs. A representative from Rug Doctor’s corporate offices explained that these costs could run into the hundreds of dollars.
